Sorry, We're Closed

It's been a fun couple of years, but the time has come to wrap things up. While the official First Friday will continue year-round, First Friday Flanuers will be on indefinite hiatus. Thanks for coming out once a month, snow, shine or monsoon, to enjoy a bit of what the Philadelphia art community has to offer.

Questions? Commments? Email Us.

Thanks again.
See ya.

November Recap

A few less than last month, but a lively crew nonetheless hit the streets Friday night to check out some galleries. There were a few stops of critical note. The Roger Lapelle gallery had been taken over by some phenomenal muti-media works and CCP's very own Barbara Spadaro's paintings were featured at Muse. Thanks to those who came and sported our new pins. Next time, perhaps we'll have some folks decked out in T-shirts!

Break out the winter booties and warm jackets. Next time, it's DECEMBER! :)
Also, keep an eye peeled for our poster contest. We have some rockin' prizes for the winner. In addition to his or her very own First Friday Flaneurs pin to grace your jacket, bookbag, or what have you, the winner will also take home a beautiful vase created by the Art Department's resident clay thrower Frank Gaydos. Pictures of the prize and prize guidelines to follow!

First, a thousand thanks to the like 87 people that came out last night. Yes, you guys had an incentive to come out, but you stayed and I hoped you enjoyed. Special shout-outs to new-comers Pat, Alison, Sean (right?), Raphael for hanging to the very end with us. And to Steve E. for making an special Flaneur Alumni guest appearance and to Christian and Karl our honorary Flaneurs.

We've got a few things in the works for the future so stay turned. I hear there might be giveaways. Niceness. Meta Niceness.

Poster: October 2008

I know the contest was just thrown at everyone pretty much at the last minute but I'm hoping that next month we can get some folks involved. And we'll have prizes next time. And what's better than doing something for a reward? Frankly, nothing. I'll revise the brief (since I didn't following it for this month) and we'll see what happens.

Ladies in Waiting

If this first friday is any indication of how the semester may go, I think we're all in for a good time. Many thanks to Monica and Sarah for walking the walk with us and to new comers Rebecca, Julie and Karl.

The threat of rain made us cut the gallery tour a little short but we did get to see a about half of what we normally check out. The highlight of the night was definitely Shopping Bag Guy:

Although, he was falling to pieces by the end of the night:

Fuel was our first stop, as usual. Monica noted that much of the work up had been up at least some part of the summer. My guess is that they wanted to show everything one last time before new work goes up in October. Let's hope:

After Fuel and a few less than stellar smaller galleries, we looked around the Wexler. There were a few 3D/furniture pieces on the main floor made out of a framework of steamed oak that were really interesting with their beautiful lines and very fluid forms. There were a few paintings upstairs that I liked but again, all in all not too much that caught any of our eyes.

We called it quits after spending some time with a set of twins:

Same time next month?
